[Based on the Project Idea Note of July 2008]
The industrial transformation of wood is generally accompanied by significant waste production. The waste products include sawdust, woodchips, bark and chips. The costs related to treating or eliminating industrial wood waste are significant. The majority of waste is currently incinerated. The project has a two-fold objective of recovering energy from wood waste through semi-industrial carbonisation while contributing to local socio-economic development.
The project rests on the following activities, principally:
- Establishing the type and volume of industrial wood waste; a related study is currently being carried out;
- Carrying out a study of the current use of industrial waste in order to establish not only existing and current forms of recovery but also to identify potential users;
- Evaluating the quantity of avoided carbon emissions in the framework of this project.
