Description of the Project :

The objective of the project is to use biomass (= sawmill waste not valorized to date), which otherwise would have decomposed (which is the case at the moment), in order to co-generate electricity and heat. The project is supported by SFID (Cameroonian subsidiary of Rougier Group) and is based on the construction and the implementation of a new co-generation unit based on sawmill waste with a capacity of net output power of 1 MW in the sawmill in Mbang.

The electricity generated would allow to operate the sawmill. The heat-surplus after electricity production feeds the sawmill’s kiln dryer (total installed capacity of 1700 m3). The project permits to substitute diesel fuel previously used to produce electricity, and replace it by biomass that is widely available. In addition, large amounts of the used biomass would have decomposed under anaerobic conditions without the project generating significant methane emissions, which are dangerous to the climate. Therefore, the project also contributes to the avoidance of methane emissions.
